OIL LAMP
The Oil Lamp series explores the mediation of light through opaque, porous porcelain structures. Small apertures of different sizes, created by tool path tessellations, selectively filter light through the porcelain. These apertures form distinct bands of light and darkness across the body of the Oil Lamp shades. The centre of the shades houses a light source, similar to the chimney of an Oil Lamp. The bottom of the forms tapers to obscure the light source. Steel support structures, modelled after butane stoves, elevate the shades from the table’s surface to increase illumination.
